The 2007 designer team

Alessandra Baldereschi

Alessandra Baldereschi, born in 1975, lives and works in Milan.

Following a Masters at the Domus Academy of Milan, in 2000 she obtained a resident-study grant in Japan.

 In 2002, she returned to Italy and started designing for various Italian and foreign companies. She recently exhibited her works at “Milano Made in Design”, Peking; “The New Italian Design”, Milan Triennale Exhibition; “Design Biennale”, S. Etienne; “Inside Design”, Amsterdam; at “Moss”, New York, during the "Fertile Garden" event; at “Dilmos” in Milan with a personal exhibition; “Design festival”, Seoul as well as the “Salone Satellite” in Milan.

Alessandro Busana, born in 1977, lives and works in Padua.

He graduated in 1999 from the Italian Design School in Padua and has participated in workshops for the companies Rollerblade, Fila, Alfa Romeo, Whirlpool, Chicco, Roncato and Alessi. Since 2004 he has worked in a professional capacity, developing concepts directed at attributing new functional aspects to objects, but interpreted using stylistic solutions of a strong formal character.

 He has excelled in numerous national and international competitions and participated at international exhibitions such as: “The New Italian Design” at the Milan Triennale; “Universal House”, NABA Accademia Belle Arti in Milan; “Food+Design+Form=Art”, New York University; “Urban Light Walk”, “Texture&Materials+Polidesign”; “Wonderful Water World”, S.Pellegrino-F.lli Guzzini, Milan; “Made For China” for Opos, Milan.

Alessandro Busana


Odoardo Fioravanti

Odoardo Fioravanti, born in 1974, lives and works in Milan.

He graduated in Industrial Design at the Design Faculty of the Politecnico di Milano.

 Since 1998 he has worked in industrial design, graphic design and installations, striving to merge the various disciplines to one continuous entity. His work experience includes collaboration with following agencies: Michele de Lucchi Associates, Cibic & Partners, Connexine, Vibram Yellow Tag and Aroundesign (Iachetti + Ragni). He has designed items for numerous companies as well as installations for the Politecnico di Milano, the Contemporary Age Foundation in Sesto San Giovanni, the Astronomical Observatory in Brera and commercial and trade fair areas for various companies. He works as a freelance journalist for specialist design magazines.

Ilaria Gibertini (on the right), born in 1970, lives and works in Parma.

 She studied communications and design at the Università del Progetto in Reggio Emilia and since 1993 has devoted herself to professional activities, alternating design projects and graphics work. She has participated in international exhibitions and competitions.

Miriam Mirri

Miriam Mirri (on the left), born in 1964, lives and works in Milan.

 Trained as a designer with Nigel Coates in London, at the Università del Progetto agency and with Stefano Giovannoni. She currently develops projects and products for important Italian and foreign companies. Her design method is based on the osmosis between visual communication and industrial design.

Monica Graffeo, born in 1973, lives and works in Pordenone.

 She attended the Italian Design School in Padua and subsequently collaborated, first with Fausto Boscariol and then with Gabriele Centazzo at Valcucine. In 1998 she has worked in a professional capacity.

From 1996 to 2004 she taught at the Italian Design School in Padua. In 2003 she won the “Young & Design” first prize and in the same year, some of her projects were exhibited at the “Donna & Design” exhibition. In 2004 she received the “Young & Design” second prize. In 2005 she won the “Top Ten Promosedia” prize and the “Good Design” prize. In the same year she was also visiting professor at the IED in San Paolo, Brazil. In 2007 she exhibited some of her products at “The New Italian Design” exhibition at the Milan Triennale exhibition.

Monica Graffeo


Marco Zito

Marco Zito, born in 1966, lives and works in Venice.

 An architect, since 1996 he has taught at the degree course in Art and Design in Venice, is holder of the chair and collaborator of Prof. Al. Meda. Vice Director of the degree course in Industrial Design.

He is a guest lecturer at the Industrial Design Centre in Montevideo (Uruguay). Design Index ADI 2004, selection for “Steelon”, Viabizzuno production. Published in the Design Yearbook 2004 by Tom Dixon. Design trophy prize for the “batimat 2005” innovation in Paris, the “lettere” project lighting system, produced by Viabizzuno. Design Index ADI 2007, selection for “lettere”, Viabizzuno production. Exhibition at “The New Italian Design”, Milan Triennale 2007.

Diego Grandi, born in 1970, lives and works in Milan.

A graduate in architecture in 1997 he has since devoted himself to interior and surface design. With Mapper, a collection of satellite carpets and biological fabrics presented at the “International Design Biennale” in Saint-Etienne, he launched a research project into the field of visual design.

His project “Le Module” was selected by the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. Since 2003 he has collaborated with Lea Ceramics developing research and experimentation into the treatment of surfaces. He participated in the “Street Dining Design” display for the Salone del Mobile 2004, at the Salon du Meuble de Paris in 2005 with the “Le Loup” installation and in 2006 was artistic designer for “XXX from Milano” on the occasion of Milan Design Capital® event. In 2005 he started working with Deroma Group.

Diego Grandi


Luca Nichetto

Luca Nichetto, born in 1976, lives and works in Venice.

There he studied, first at the Istituto d’Arte and then at the IUAV, Istituto Universitario di Archittetura di Venezia where he graduated in Industrial Design.

He started his professional activities in 1999 designing his first products in Murano glass for Salviati. In the same year he started his association with Foscarini, for whom, in addition to signing certain products, he also collaborated as a consultant in research into new materials and product development (2001-2003). In 2006 he set up his own agency, creating the company Nichetto & Partners which deals in both Design Consultancy and Industrial Design. He has held workshops in various national and international universities and has participated in exhibitions in Europe, the United States and Japan.

Joe Velluto, is an industrial design and communications agency, established in Vicenza in 2004 by associates Andrea Maragno (1974) and Sonia Tasca (1975).

 The agency works for many companies and is involved in industrial design, installations and communications. In 2005, it presented a book entitled “Salefino: new flavours from Italian design”, published by Editrice Abitare Segesta. In 2005, the “RosAria” project became part of the permanent design collection of the “Pinakothek der Moderne” gallery of the Neue Sammlung museum in Munich. In 2006, the agency founded the “Nazionale Italiana Design” with Cristina Morozzi. Joe Velluto is a lecturer and visiting professor at the: Italian Design School in Padua, Università La Sapienza in Rome, Polimoda di Firenze and the Como Polytecnic.

Ilaria Marelli

Ilaria Marelli, born in 1971, lives and works in Como.

 An architect and designer, after a five-year collaboration at Cappellini’s brand management, in 2003 she opened her own creative laboratory “Ilaria Marelli studio” which provides strategic product consultancy and communications in the furnishings sector and develops interior design and installation projects, using young creative staff. Since 2002 Ilaria Marelli is a lecturer in product-service design at the Politecnico di Milano and at the Milan Scuola Politecnica di design.

Matteo Ragni, born in 1972, lives and works in Milan.

Graduated in Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano.

Between 1998 and 2005 he set up the “Aroundesign” agency with Giulio Iacchetti, with whom he won the Compasso d’Oro ADI for the biodegradable “Moscardino” fork/spoon, currently in the Moma permanent design museum in New York. He has designed items for many Italian and foreign companies. In addition to being a designer he has also worked as a lecturer in various international universities and as an art director and architect.

Matteo Ragni


Matteo Bazzicalupo

Matteo Bazzicalupo, born in 1966, lives and works in Milan. Architect and designer, in 1995 he established “deepdesign” with Raffaela Mangiarotti.

Together they explored new scenarios and designed products in various sectors.

They won design competitions held by JVC and Matsushita and have held lessons at various institutes and universities. Several of their products won design prizes including the I.D. Award 2003 and were selected and published by “The International Design Yearbook” 2005, Design Index 2005 and 2006 and Design Now! (Taschen, 2007).

Giulio Iacchetti, born in 1966, lives and works in Milan and has works in industrial design since 1992.

He combines his designer activities with teaching in numerous universities and design schools, both in Italy and abroad. He has designed items for many Italian and foreign companies and has been awarded various international prizes.

In 2001, together with Matteo Ragni, he was awarded the Compasso d’oro for the multipurpose biodegradable piece of cutlery “Moscardino”, currently part of the Moma permanent design exhibition in New York. He designed the “Design at Coop” project for Coop and is currently responsible for coordination of the “Coop Eureka project”.

Giulio Iacchetti


Francesca Donati

Francesca Donati, born in 1967, lives and works in Milan.

 In her studio she undertakes and manages projects on various scales: in recent years she has completed architectural projects for new buildings and interiors of show rooms, beauty and wellbeing centres, shops, trendy bars and living spaces (“Fubu Store in Milan, fitness/wellness centre in Padua, “The Photographers” gallery/bar in Milan). In the furniture sector she has collaborated with Antidiva in the creation of furnishing accessories. She has gained experience in the editorial field as coordinator of the Modo newspaper. In 2000 she founded Oche Bianche (with Benedetta Tamborini and Pippo Pini), a clothing company in collaboration with Deschamps.

Raffaella Mangiarotti, born in 1965, lives and works in Milan.

 Having completed her degree in Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano she founded the “deepdesign”design agency with Matteo Bazzicalupo and collaborated with numerous companies.

She has been awarded prizes in the following competitions:Young & Design” (1996, 1997, 1999, 2000), “Cosmopack” (1995, 1996), “Esaedro” (1997), “ID Award “(2004) and Selection Compasso d’Oro” (2005). Her projects have been published in several books and magazines including “The International Design Yearbook” 2005, “L’observatoire” by Première Vision, “The Moma International Design Encyclopedia”, and “Design Now!”, Tashen.

Raffaella Mangiarotti


Marzia Mosconi

Marzia Mosconi, born in 1972, lives and works in Magnano (MI).

She graduated in stage design at the Brera Academy in 1995. In the same year she started to work in her own laboratory where she created unique and unusual furnishings and accessories.

 She started to hold exhibitions of her works that were created with various types of new and unusual materials. Nowadays, her unique imagination is expressed in lighting solutions and in particular she produces innovative and evocative chandeliers. In 1998 she participated in “Labyrinths of light” at the Arengario in Milan with Arik Levy and Luca Casini. In 1999/2000/2001, she exhibited her creations at the “Salone Satellite”. In 2001 she designed the Custo Barcelona and Pitti Uomo fashion shows and Bimbo with the Campana Brothers, as well as the Water Bar ad Abitare il Tempo exhibition. She collaborated in designed for television advertising sets. In 2006 she took part in the Pitti Living exhibition.

Pio and Tito Toso are brothers born in 1973 and 1971 respectively and now live and work in Zero Branco (TV).

They work in the interior and design architecture sector, collaborating with companies in the furnishings and lighting industry.

 They have won numerous architecture and design competitions, winning first prize in 2005 for the renovation of the Musile di Piave, as well as, for the upgrading of the central area of Caposile again in 2005, and they regularly take part in various architecture exhibitions.
